sigh.

if I'm going to live and die by the success of a hockey team, I should probably pick a team that wins more often, like ottawa or detroit...

I don't think the habs stand a chance after tonight. it's utter bullshit that koivu goes down, possibly forever (no one is saying anything, but when an EYE bleeds like that, it's not good), and there isn't even a penalty called on the play. I really wanted someone to knock justin williams completely out of the game. I wanted to watch his head roll. I don't care if it WAS an accident, it was bullshit.

and all I could think about was the asshole don cherry talking about how visors are pointless...

if koivu doesn't come back, habs lose the next three straight, and I'm stuck with the fucking mariners to keep my sport fetish occupied for the next six months...

it just HAD to be my favourite fucking player, too.

croakey-okey

tried some new stuff at karaoke... not sure how it worked. I liked my rendition of "laid" in it's wonderfully loud, off-key glory. I hit the high notes stronger than I thought possible.

"summer in the city" wasn't too bad, despite not knowing any of the verses, just the chorus. "roxanne" and "piano man" need no explanation... my rendition of "danke schoen" was brutal tho... I couldn't decide if I should try for the wayne newton girlish sounding type, or a more natural voice... I also had very ittle voice left, so that didn't help.

chineefoo was great, and we nearly cracked the century mark. they raised their prices a bit, and we hit $99 after tax, but before tip. went out to see rachael and bean's new places, respectively, and I'm a bit jealous of their nice apartments...

got back to the in-laws place to see the habs are winning 4-1 in the second period. I'm pleasantly surprised by this...

and later tonight, if I can watch the mariners, I'm supposed to look for my dad on tv. he got tickets that are two rows behind the home team dugout, so there's a good chance he'll be on tv at some point...

sorry paul, we didn't go see slither. no one seemed all that interested.

new toy.

I picked up a new ipod tonight. I justified it by deciding to return the compy I was going to buy from a coworker, 'cos it sucks some serious ass.

I settled for the 1gb ipod nano, justifying it as 500 songs is just ridiculous (I can't even fathom why people need 30000 damn songs in the biggest ipod). in hindsight, maybe the extra $50 would have been worth it for the 2gb model. I was going through itunes, and just my first time through my mp3 library netted almost 3gb worth of songs. since it's alreadt past my bedtime, I decided to take the easy route, and just pick entire albums that I'll listen to all the way through. it's sort of a half assed desert island playlist...

arcade fire - funeral
ben folds five - whatever & ever amen
catatonia - equally cursed & blessed
coldplay - a rush of blood to the head
death cab for cutie - transatlanticism
franz ferdinand - franz ferdinand
killers - hot fuss
postal service - give up
radiohead - the bends
stereophonics - word gets around
streets - a grand don't come for free
tegan & sara - if it was you
travis - the man who
weakerthans - left & leaving
weakerthans - reconstruction site

that's still plenty of music considering I'll likely only be listening to it for a little while at a time... not a lot of variety, and there were some cuts I'm not pleased with (james, k's choice, peter schilling, decemberists, soul coughing)... miyuki thinks I should boot a weakerthans in favour of something else, but dammit, I already dropped 'fallow' and I like those albums entirely too much.

there aren't any really new albums on there, but there aren't any new albums that have rocketed up my faves list either.

holy crap that's a huge pie.

we were trying to decide what to do for dinner, and since we're horrible people lately, we ordered a pizza. tried a new place, zagi's in north ballard... they had a really tasty menu, and we opted for the large "spuds: green and white" pizza and a small italian garden salad.

holy crap. our pizza was amazing. and it was TWO FEET ACROSS! I set the box down on top of the stove, and it covered the entire stove. pizza has sliced yukon gold potatoes and spinach and onions carmelized in guiness and goat cheese and I don't even know what else... we're gonna be eating leftovers for about three days.

big plans...

wifey and I were planning to take a mini vacation in august for our first anniversary. we were thinking either victoria or san francisco.

I just got an email about a couple of concerts happening the week prior in eugene, OR. death cab for cutie plays thursday, and toad the wet sprocket (!) plays friday, both at a winery/vineyard. I thought toad broke up years ago, so I'm stoked about that. they were my fave band in high school. and death cab is one of my fave bands now. there's a possibility we may attempt to see both concerts... drive to eugene (stop and say hi to my family on the way), which is about a six hour drive.

san francisco is about another eight hours south by car. another idea is to hop on a commuter flight out of eugene and get there in about 90 minutes, but spend several hundred dollars more in the process.

we should be able to find a decent hotel relatively cheaply.. maybe $150 a night to get something halfway nice? it's the airfare I'm not sure about... dropping $800 just to get an extra two days in SF (which would add another $300 to the hotel bill), whereas we could just drive and save the money... it's not like it wouldn't be quality time anyway, with all the pretty views through southern oregon and northern cali... I'm sure there are lots of things we'll want to do in SF (japanese tea garden, alcatraz, fisherman's wharf, maybe top of the mark? no baseball unfortunately, giants are on the road), but I don't know if we'll really need four or five days on what would be left of our budget... we'd get more bang for our buck by compressing our time in SF, opting for quality over quantity.

it's a moral dilemma, that's for sure...

oi.

I ate a lot this weekend. it was crazy.

mariko and alex came down for the emerald city comic con... alex seemed freakishly fascinated with one of the artists there, spending hours and hours watching the guy sketch. I bought a couple of t-shirts and quickly got bored. there were a lot of damn creepy people there, but it could have been MUCH worse. highlight was the short stormtrooper. there were two of them, one six inches shorter than the other... I REALLY wanted to walk up and ask, "aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" but figured it would be a bad idea...

food was definitely the highlight of the weekend. I have a new fave breakfast at the hi-life: fancy french toast. it's thick sliced bread battered in vanilla custard and served with espresso-marscapone cheese... it was so damn good, I thought I was having a religious experience. we also went out for ethernopian food, and aside from the service at queen sheba being horrible (waited over an hour for our food), it was really tasty... round that out with cold stone and some tasty sushi (including some incredible white albacore tuna), and I had a very satisfying weekend...

oh, and I even made it to the finals in my fantasy hockey pool, guaranteeing I'll finish no worse than second out of twenty teams. I'm impressed by that, since it's an uber competitve league and a lot of those guys do massive amount of homework and scouting, and I did jack shit...

now I get to look forward to another brutal week at work, including having to work all next weekend building a mezzanine...
